Oats Chicken Shorba

This is a thick soup based on chicken and oats ,and  is mostly prepared in the month of Ramadan. During Ramadan days , after the long night prayer we have a routine of having some porridge (Kanji) of different different varieties like thari kanji, jeeraka kanji and sometimes it will be this flavourful,  energy giving shorba.This shorba is the simplest and easiest soup, we can make.

Ingredients ;

  1. Chicken bone pieces(minced into small pieces : 1 cup
  2. Oats : 3/4 cup
  3. Ginger Garlic Paste : 1 tsp
  4. Turmeric powder : a pinch
  5. Black pepper powder : 1/2 tsp
  6. Cumin Powder ; 1/2 tsp
  7. Salt
  8. Sunflower oil : 1 tsp
  9. Tomato paste : 1 tsp
  10. Garam Masala : 1/2 tsp
  11. Coriander Leaves
  12. Lemon juice (freshly squeezed from half of a lemon)

Method : 

  • In a pressure cooker add the oil and saute the chicken pieces with turmeric powder,black pepper powder and salt.
  • Saute this about 4-5 minutes and add the GG paste ,tomato paste ,garam masala,cumin powder and salt.
  • Add 2 cups of water and allow to boil.
  • Add the oats and close the lid.
  • Wait for 1 whistle in medium flame.
  • After opening the lid,add some chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice before serving.
